Outcomes and Impacts of The Queensland Hand Hygiene Program
In 2007, Queensland Health commenced a behaviour and culture change program aimed at improving hand hygiene compliance of healthcare workers. The program was unique in that it equally focussed on utilising effective change management strategies as it did contemporary approaches for improving hand hygiene.
In 2009, CHRISP undertook an evaluation of the program to determine the level of progress, successes, learnings and future opportunities. Whilst results indicated a range of positive outcomes including a two fold increase in hand hygiene compliance, the journey to sustainable, optimal hand hygiene practice is ongoing.
