Risk Factors for Percutaneous Exposures in Healthcare Workers: Five Years of Surveillance in Queensland Public Hospitals
Objective: To identify risk factors for percutaneous exposures in healthcare workers in Queensland public hospitals.
Methods: Five years of aggregated and deidentified data from Queensland public hospitals participating in the CHRISP state-wide surveillance program will be presented.
Results: Risk factors for exposure will be outlined including occupational groups, device types, exposure location, activity undertaken at the time of exposure, injury sequence, exposure to bloodborne disease and hepatitis B vaccination status. Recommendations for future improvements in state-wide surveillance will be presented.
Conclusions: Continuing state-wide surveillance and ongoing improvements in surveillance processes will facilitate programs targeting the prevention of these injuries.
